Write for us
We publish a small number of guest essays each year. They have to earn a place next to the staff book: original, useful, and written for readers in Newcastle and the Hunter, not for a keyword planner.
What we want
- 1,000 words or more of original Australian English.
- A specific Hunter problem: a housing type, a pest, a report clause, a negotiation, a council record. See the topic hubs before you pitch.
- First-hand knowledge or careful reporting. Inspectors, builders, pest technicians, conveyancers and long-term owners are welcome.
- Descriptive headlines. No “ultimate guide” voice.
What we will not run
- Rewritten brochure copy or AI filler.
- Unmarked commercial links, directory dumps, or guest posts that exist only to pass PageRank.
- Attacks on named firms without a documented public record.
- Medical, legal or structural advice dressed up as a report.
Links, payment and disclosure
A guest essay may include one relevant outbound link if it helps the reader. If that link is paid, affiliated, or otherwise commercial, it must carry rel="sponsored". We will add the attribute if you forget. We do not sell unmarked links.
Example of a correctly marked promotional mention: editorial placement enquiries via Worldwide Backlinks. That is a commercial relationship, so the link is sponsored. It is not an endorsement of any inspector.
How to pitch
Send a 150-word pitch, a short bio, and two published clips (or a sample) through the contact form. Choose the “Guest essay” topic. Do not attach a finished 3,000-word draft until we ask. We reply when we have something to say; silence is not a yes.
If we commission the piece, you keep copyright and grant us a perpetual licence to publish, edit for house style, and keep the essay in the archive. We will not rewrite your voice into a press release.
Read the editorial standards and the about page before you write.
